Can someone help installing Ubuntu 13.04 on a Medion Akoya PC?
I'm very new to using Linux and Ubuntu but I've a relatively extensive
knowledge of Windows, partitioning, BIOS etc. Previously, when trying to
dual-boot Ubuntu and Windows 8, I've had some issues with Ubuntu being
somewhat slow (I also had this issue when I removed Windows 8 before,
which leads me to think it's a hardware optimization issue) and it would
crash to a command line consistently after what seemed to be 5 minutes on
the OS or after I started tinkering with Bluetooth functions. The
Bluetooth thing seems very unlikely (to me, anyway), it just seemed to
happen at the same time. A big wall of text would pop up, white on black
and I'm not even sure I could capture what it shows if I wanted to, it
goes pretty damn fast and, as you'd imagine, I'd just like to flat-out
avoid the issue instead of re-creating it for troubleshooting. If that's
not possible, that's fine and I can try to get a picture of it or find
some kind of error log.
I'll post the basic hardware specifications I know to find from the System
page on Windows 8 and I'll do my best to find anything asked after.
Processor: AMD A10-5700 APU with Radeon HD 7660D Graphics 3.40 GHz
Installed memory (RAM): 8.00 GB (7.46 GB usable)
System type: 64-bit Operating System, x64-based processor
Basically, what I'm looking and hoping for is someone to tell me to re-do
the dual-boot install, go to the terminal and install some proprietary
drivers and I'll be happy as Larry.
As a side-note, I'm after keeping Windows 8 because I rely on it for
particular games, it's not that I don't trust Ubuntu to satisfy all my
needs, it's that the devs don't support Linux.
